Jolly Phonics

According to many academic studies and research, the progress of children using Jolly Phonics far exceeds that of other students. This is true for native and non-native English speakers. Today more than 100 countries around the world use it.

What it is?

Introduced in British and American schools since the 1970s, Jolly Phonics offers a comprehensive curriculum and covers 7 years of teaching.

How does it work?

2 – 5 year olds

Children start with the simplest sounds and work their way up to the most complex. Children learn a new language in a sensory way: by playing, singing and moving their hands and body.

There are 42 sounds (don’t let that scare you, kids learn much faster than we do!). These are taught in a different order, not following the alphabet. The first six sounds are s, a, t, i, p, n. These six sounds form three-letter words that are simpler than any other six letters combined. For example: sit, sat, pin, pan, tip, tap and nap.

6 – 10 year olds

At age 6, children learn basic sentence structure and write their first complete sentences. Later on, the basic concepts of grammar and punctuation are also taught: starting with simple age-appropriate definitions and following a gradual development.

Through multi-sensory teaching with actions and color coding, children are given the tools they need to independently speak, read, and write.
